final front cover

i added a sell line to make to magazine look more conventional, i also changed the fonts of the cover lines and fonts at the bottom to give more variety, made 'exclusive' stand out more by making it bigger and adding a background and added a price near the bar code so people knew how much the magazine is.

draft 2 and 3

draft 2
i edited my main image using Photoshop to make her skin look softer and remove her blemishes, this made the front cover look more professional. For the image i also cropped it so that their was less white space and more of the model. I also changed the font type of the coverlines so that the names of the artists stood out more.

draft 3
to improve i added a thumbnail image to make to front cover look more proffesional. i then did a survey around the class to see which looked better, the majority liked it better without the image therefore in my next draft i am going to remove it and also change my fonts and add a sell line.

front cover first draft

when looking at this first draft their are several things i would change, first of all their is the fact that the masthead is cutting off the top of the models head, therefore i could improve by placing the masthead behind her head. i also don't like how the colour of the main feature clashes with her clothing, so i could try and use a different image to resolve this problem.
I could also make the image look more professional by editing it on photoshop.
Gill Sans MT Condensed for main feature font

images for front cover

I like the clothing choice of this image as she looks individual from what people usually wear which is the whole idea of being an indie and listen to indie rock music as it is alternate to mainstream. I also like the background as it is plain and simple, looks professional and doesn't distract from the model. the only thing i dislike about this image is the expression on her face, i think she needs to look more rebellious rather than happy.

i like the view point of this image, by taking the picture from a low angle to model looks dominant and in power. again, like the previous image her clothing looks individual and the background is plain therefore doesn't distract from the the model. The only thing i dislike about this image is i think it is too close up and there wouldn't be enough room to have a mast head, cover lines, main feature and a flash.

i liked how centred this image was and how lack of emotion but again thought she could look more rebellious and that the view point would be more effective from below.

This image would look good on an indie rock magazine cover as her clothing suggests her individuality and how unique her style is. i would also say that the composition and framing of the image is good as it leaves space for a mast head and other conventions such as cover lines. the only problem with this image as her facial expression.
this image, like the previous, would look good in an indie rock magazine for the same reasons.
but models expresson for this image also suits my chosen genre therefore this is the image i am going to use.

hand drawn drafts for front page

i think that this draft shows the basic layout of my magazine front cover. I have placed things in all the conventional places and think everything fits into place well on the page.

i then did another draft again showing the layout but this time with a different image, i like this better as you can see the persons clothes therefore finding more out about them which is good for the mise-en-scene when thinking about the genre of my magazine

i used an image of lily allen which i found on the internet to make a digital mock up of where everything would go on my music magazine front cover
