Language- This contents page uses the most used conventions for a magazine. Using several images from different articles around the page allows the audience to see who is going to be involved in the article and therefore making them more likely to read it if it is someone they recognise, the biggest image is usually related to the main feature which is on the front cover. Another convention would be the colour scheme which stays the same throughout and is normally only 2 colours, this is because it then looks more professional. The colour black could connote the idea of indie rock being different and alternate to main stream music. Large font is also used on the features section which lists all the articles that will be in the magazine, this is because it draws people’s attention if they see a name they recognised making them more likely to read the article.
Other conventions would be short quotations from various people which will be featured in the magazine. This is a useful thing to do as it makes the readers wonder what the quote could be related to and what the story behind it is. Page numbers giving reference to location of articles, with the name of the articles are used so that people can go straight to a certain feature instead of having the flick through several unwanted pages to find it.
Institution- This contents page would have been made by the company Kerrang and published by Bauer as this is their magazine featuring relevant information in their chosen subjects, i.e. music. Only people that like and listen to the artists spoken about in the magazine are likely to buy and read it as it is of some relevance to them. Bauer would publish it is a magazine with of a certain genre that none other of their magazines cover, therefore they are gaining a bigger audience.
Ideology-The fact that the people in the images are all either tattooed, have microphones in their hands or are wearing mostly black clothing with skulls on them shows that the magazine believes in punk/rock ways of producing music. All of the people in the images look like they are relevant to the same type of genre and therefore they would all be relevant in this magazine.
Audience-I would say that this magazine is aimed at people who are into a certain type of music, which in this case would be punk/pop rock and mainly teenagers. They would find this magazine to be for them as it has information of bands/artists that they like and therefore would be interested in reading about.
Representation-I would say that this magazine portrays people who listen to indie/rock music as being quit violent and in some ways scary, this is because the people in the images all look rebellious, have tattoos and their facial expressions are quit aggressive

Language- This NME contents page uses most of the conventions for a magazine. The contents page is aligned o the right hand side of the page, where there are subheading and page numbers used to show where to find each article, this is a good thing because then readers can find what they want quicker. There is also a band index to the left hand side which tells the reader what artists are featured in the magazine, this would make the chances of the target audience buying the magazine higher, as if they were to browse through and see a band index full of artist they like they would be more likely to buy it. The colour scheme is red, black and white, which links to the NME logo and will have been used on the front cover too.
There is also a small article in the middle of the page called ‘the moment that…Kasabian got romantic in church’. A small article on the contents page could be a good aspect to have as it gives the reader an idea of what is going to be inside the magazine. Also it could show the music genre the magazine is aimed at.
Finally, NME have a small advert at the bottom of their page in order to persuade people to subscribe to their magazine and save 45 pounds. By giving a discount the reader is more likely to read the rest of the writing and subscribe as they would be saving money.
Institution-This content would have been made by the company NME as this is their magazine featuring relevant information in their chosen subjects, i.e. music. Only people that like and listen to the artists spoken about in the magazine are likely to buy and read it as it is of some relevance to them. Although it is published by ipc advertising because it is a certain genre that none other of their magazines cover, therefore they are gaining a bigger audience.
Ideology-I would say that the values and beliefs shown in this magazine is that you should appreciate the indie music around now such as Alex Turner and Miles Kane as the main feature, but because Rolling Stones are also featured I would say they also think it right to appreciate older less modern music.

Audience- The target audience for NME is mostly males around the age of 23, this is because men around this age are still going to festivals and enjoy the genre of music featured in the magazine. I think that the percentage of men to woman who read this magazine is bigger because stereotypically woman would be more likely to enjoy pop music such as Cheryl Cole and the Saturdays rather than male music featured in NME such as Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes.
Representation-I think that people are portrayed in this magazine as being very individual in their music taste, being quit rebellious and different with their own style and own opinions. The fact that in the images they are all using guitars and drums rather than all the new techno computer technology used in music today also shows they don’t follow the crowed.
There is also a review section which gives the readers information on what is the best things to purchase, this will be related to the particular genre that Q write about. By putting the issue number on, the reader knows how successful the magazine is, as if it is a high number people must read and enjoy the magazine for it to carry on being published.
Institution-This magazine would have been made by Q and published by Bauer, this is because it covers a certain genre that none of the other magazines they published do which means they will gain a bigger audience therefore getting more money.
Ideology-I would say that the values and beliefs of this magazine are that you should be opened minded about your choice of music and try to listen to a variety whether it be old or new.
Audience- Q's audience is composed of passionate, engaged and open minded music fans driven to continually discover new music - and to use this lust for discovery to influence their friends. The audience is split 75% male to 25% female.
Representation- I think the people are portrayed in this magazine is being very relaxed with their music taste and always looking new artist to admire rather than staying with the same ones.
