Language- The band name is at the top of the page in bold black writing with a vibrant blue around it. This is very clear to the audience that it is the band name. Underneath the band name is a write up about them. This will include a brief history and the names of the members of the band. It may even contain bands that they sound like and who they are influenced by. The thumbnail images show placed around the page are likely to be relevant to things talked about in the article. By placing a bigger, more visible text of a certain quote within the article you catch the reader’s attention on something exciting that is going to be spoken about therefore making them more likely to read it.
Other conventions would be things such as the colour scheme, by having all the text in the same colour scheme it makes the image and other important information such as the contact details and the main image stand out. The introduction to the article plays a big part in grabbing the attention of the audience, if it is catchy and informative on what the article is going to be about, they are more likely to read it to find out what happens.
Institution-This double page spread would have been made by the company NME as this is their magazine featuring relevant information in their chosen subjects, i.e. music. Only people that like and listen to the artists spoken about in the magazine are likely to buy and read it as it is of some relevance to them. Although it is published by ipc advertising because it is a certain genre that none other of their magazines cover, therefore they are gaining a bigger audience.
Ideology- I would say that the values and beliefs shown in this magazine is the appreciation of music, especially indie as stereotypically they are seen to be individual people with their own ideas and ways of living, this is shown in the image and how it is a bit unusually composed with the ice cream and the facial expressions.
Audience-The target audience for NME is mostly males around the age of 23, this is because men around this age are still going to festivals and enjoy the genre of music featured in the magazine. I think that the percentage of men to woman who read this magazine is bigger because stereotypically woman would be more likely to enjoy pop music such as Cheryl Cole and the Saturdays rather than male music featured in NME such as Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes.
Representation-I would say that the representation shown in the article is the dominance of men over woman, this is because in the image the main is stood behind her leaning over as in protecting her, this is because the magazine is mainly targeted at men, and they like to think of themselves as being in control, of which is shown in this image.
Language- The band name is at the top of the page in bold writing. This is very clear to the audience that it is the band name. Underneath the band name is an image of all of them which will be eye catching to the audience, therefore if they like the band they’re likely to read the article. There is also a smaller image of one band member in particular which will be relevant as this member will be mentioned somewhere in the article. Another thing would be that by placing a bigger, more visible text of a certain quote within the article you catch the reader’s attention on something exciting that is going to be spoken about therefore making them more likely to read it.Other conventions would be things such as the colour scheme, by having all the text in the same colour scheme it makes the image and other important parts of the article such as main quotes stand out more. The introduction to the article plays a big part in grabbing the attention of the audience, if it is catchy and informative on what the article is going to be about, they are more likely to read it to find out what happens.Institution-This double page spread would have been made by Q and published by Bauer, this is because it covers a certain genre that none of the other magazines they published do which means they will gain a bigger audience therefore getting more money.Ideology-I would say that the values and beliefs of this magazine are that you should be opened minded about your choice of music and try to listen to a variety whether it is old or new.Audience- Q's audience is composed of passionate, engaged and open minded music fans driven to continually discover new music - and to use this lust for discovery to influence their friends. The audience is split 75% male to 25% female.
Language- The larget text on the page is 'TEEN SPIRIT' it also has its own font and stands out the most, this would be to catch the audiences attention, especially the target audience which would read what is read and be interested to know how the band have 'teen spirit' by putting white in top of the red background it contrasts the most making it stand out even more. I also like how the text goes on to the left hand side of the page adding to mood of the image with the blood splats at the end of the text's background as the image looks violent. the short paragraph below the heading gives brief information on what is going to be spoken about in the article, the text is smaller than the heading bu larger than the text for the article, this makes it clear that it isn't a part of the article. The article is left aligned with an unjustified right with black text which makes it look professional and is easy to read. There is also a buy line which tells us wrote the article and who the image was taken by, in smaller text as it isn't as important to the audience. The images in the bottom right hand corner are blocked away from the article with a red background, but they are still relevant to the article, this gives the oppertunity to add more images to make the article looks more visually interesting rather that using words to show what has been said by the band.
institution- This double page spread was created by Kerrang and published by Bauer as this is their magazine featuring relevant information in their chosen subjects, i.e. music. Only people that like and listen to the artists spoken about in the magazine are likely to buy and read it as it is of some relevance to them. Bauer would publish it as it is a magazine with of a certain genre that none other of their magazines cover, therefore they are gaining a bigger audience.
ideology- The fact that the image on this article looks violent says to me that the values and belief of this magazine is to promote teenage rebelion and show them how it's fun and what other bands/artists of there age are doing therefore it is cool. If the audience like there music they are more likely to act as they do.
Audience-I would say that this magazine is aimed at people who are into a certain type of music, which in this case would be punk/pop rock and mainly teenagers. They would find this magazine to be for them as it has information of bands/artists that they like and therefore would be interested in reading about
Representation-I would say that this magazine portrays people who listen to indie/rock music as being quit violent and in some ways scary, this is because the people in the images all look rebellious, have tattoos and their facial expressions look like they are enjoying what is happening in the image. there clothing also suggests a lack of care for looking presentable as they are wearing t shirts and jeans rather than dressier clothing.
